The recent debate about the modal choice for Edinburgh's prestigious new transit scheme included consideration of the electric trolleybus as an alternative that could provide a network of three routes for the cost of one tram route.

But because of pre-existing work and expence, the Scottish Nationalist Party reversed it's previous stance and decided to abide by the Scottish Executive's wish to continue with the tram scheme
